Northumberland Coast & Castles

The Northumberland coast is one of the most beautiful in England. Enhancing its long, sandy beaches are a string of historic castles, traditional pubs and excellent restaurants serving local cuisine such as Craster kippers .

Two of the most rewarding ways to get right up close to the spectacular scenery are to follow the Coast and Castles cycle route or the wonderful walks we have in the area, relishing the unbroken views and the fresh sea air.

Visit Bamburgh Castle , poised on a basalt crag against the sea - one of England’s most imposing castles, it is still lived in today. In contrast are the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh and Warkworth , magnificent examples of the region’s tumultuous history.

At low tide, drive to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne , cut off from England twice daily by the sea. With only 150 inhabitants it’s a relaxing place to visit – try a glass of traditional Lindisfarne Mead while you’re there.
