Classical ballet in grand theatres, experimental works in cutting-edge art centres, fun classes for all ages… if it gets your toes twitching, we’ve got it! Newcastle’s Theatre Royal is one of the country’s most famous theatres and in its 170-year history has played host to some of the biggest names in dance.

Rambert Dance Company has adopted the Theatre Royal as its regional home and the venue also attracts acclaimed visitors such as Scottish Ballet, St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre and Irish dancing phenomenon Magic of the Dance. Performances range from spectacular classical ballets to contemporary works from world-leading choreographers.
Sunderland Empire Theatre’s status as one of the largest-capacity venues in the north means it can stage some truly breathtaking large-scale productions that have included Birmingham Royal Ballet and Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance among many others.
As the National Dance Agency located in Newcastle, Dance City welcomes everyone with a passion for dance, whether you want to watch one of its many visiting performances or take part in a class or workshop yourself.
Street jazz, tango or ballroom…take your partner and take your pick!
