Wood, nails, ideas – make things…
Sculpture Day is a fun family day out set in the beautifully restored Saltwell Park.
This year will be the 23rd Sculpture Day and our theme for the event is Turrets and Towers. Launch your imagination into castles, bridges, knights and princesses or create your own fairytale. Bring to life your favourite turret or tower – will the Tyne Bridge inspire you or why not recreate Saltwell Park’s own Saltwell Towers?
We provide tonnes of wood, tools and all the nails you need. Professional artists will be on hand to help you create and capture your ideas in wood.
You can also have a go at the ancient Japanese art of Raku Pottery. Paint your tile with special glazes, watch it being fired in the kiln and then take it home as a souvenir of your day. Live music will add to the atmosphere with hammer tapping rhythms for all to enjoy.
On display will be sculptures created at Bill Quay Farm by sixty children from four local schools during the week before the event.
Sculpture Day is a memorable and enjoyable day suitable for all ages. Come and help us create a fantastic display of Turrets and Towers, whatever the weather. Please bring along your own hammer and lots of ideas.
