Sailing, surfing, white-water rafting, fishing… whatever floats your boat, North East England’s coastline and waterways have it covered! You’ll find excellent sailing and canoeing at Kielder Water and Forest Park, Europe’s largest man-made lake. You can also berth your own boat here or at marinas such as Amble, Sunderland or Hartlepool.

SurfingOur stunning coastline is perfect for surfing; Tynemouth frequently hosts the O’Neill British Surfing Championships and has a thriving surf scene, including surf shops where you can hire wetsuits and surfboards.
Other favourite spots include Saltburn in Tees Valley and Embleton Bay, Alnmouth and Bamburgh on Northumberland’s coast. Surfing lessons are available at Tynemouth and Saltburn.
White-water rafting, canoeing and kayaking courses are all available at Teesside White Water Course and our coastline is also ideal for kitesurfing - NEKitesurfing offers tuition.
The region offers superb game, coarse and sea fishing. The Rivers Tyne, Wear and Tees are all good for salmon and sea trout, with the River Tyne yielding salmon of 13lbs on average, and the River Tees holds the national record for chub.
Or why not charter a boat for some summer sea fishing at Seahouses, Amble or Hartlepool?
