Come and look behind the scenes of BBC Newcastle
BBC Newcastle is inviting the public to have a go at presenting the news and weather this summer as it opens its doors and launches its special tours of the site and studios.
Known locally as ‘The Pink Palace’, BBC Newcastle's Broadcasting Centre is home to Look North, Inside Out, The Politics Show, Late Kick Off and radio station BBC Newcastle.
Visitors will be able to see into the BBC’s television and radio newsroom and step inside its famous studios. The tours will show visitors how news teams and programme makers work to produce some of the region’s best programming using tools such as autocue, editing software and sound effects. The public will also be able to see a live radio broadcast, sit in the presenter's chair and learn how songs are chosen for radio.
In the BBC’s interactive studio, guests can have a go at presenting the news or weather and star in their own radio drama, complete with sound effects.
Tours last for approximately an hour and 45 minutes and involve a reasonable amount of walking and standing. Tours are aimed at visitors from nine years old and above though all visitors are welcome.
Tours take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10.45am and 1.30pm. Each tour takes a maximum of 15 people - block bookings for groups are welcome.
