The hills of Weardale will be alive with the sound of music in June. The annual Pennine Fells Music Festival takes place at Killhope: the North of England Lead Mining Museum on Saturday, 16 June and Sunday, 17 June.
Headlining the event will be Tarras, a popular six-piece from the borders, who perform on Saturday evening. Using the accordion, violin, cittern and mandolin to give their contemporary sound a traditional flavour, Tarras have won critical acclaim and were shortlisted in the Radio 2 Folk Awards. After splitting up in 2002, the band reformed last year and have recently released their third album, Warn the Waters. They will be supported by local sisters Ashleigh and Georgia, who have been performing around the North of England for many years, both together and separately as the lead singers of various acoustic and electric bands.
Acoustic duo Brother Crow, rock and blues veterans Daytona Blues Band and reggae/ska festival favourites Pikey Beatz will also be performing during the two days.
There will also be acoustic sessions in the museum’s Mongolian yurt, children’s workshops and local youth bands as well as fresh food and a bar.
